If you are looking for an e-commerce site, here is some information you may find helpful:
- If you want to accept credit cards, you will need an internet merchant account with your bank, a gateway company such as authorize.net, and an SSL certificate from your web hosting company. You will also need a hosting account with a company which has a shopping cart, which is a little (or a lot) more expensive than a simple hosting plan. However, you may decide that you don't need to accept credit cards. In that case, read on.
- Paypal has a shopping cart which is free. We recommend this for your first e-commerce site. Paypal charges 2.9% + $0.30 USD per sale.
- Another alternative is 2Checkout.com . Simply put, you enter your product and price into their database. They supply a snippet of code to add to your website, which shows the product, price and a buy this product button. If your customer adds the item to the cart, they are redirected to checkout at 2Checkout.com. 2Checkout performs the transaction, takes their cut, and pays you.
